Farm Simulator, sun care, and more Richard Simmons

Image
I started off today with a short walk since Michael now does not need to be monitored all the time since his surgery was about 5 days ago. Afterwards, I did the Richard Simmons aerobic step workout video again. I did much better the second time.  After lunch, I worked on this Pusheen coloring page, I thought it turned out quite nice. Then, I did some research on skin care for the summer, learned quite a lot and purchased a few UPF clothing items, UPF umbrella, and new sunscreen. Afterwards, I played Farming Simulator with my sibling for about an hour. I basically just drove around in the game, but it was very fun. I also purchased a set of 40lb. dumbbells, 20lbs each that is. I really want to get back into weightlifting and being consistent with it, along with continuing some fun 80's cardio workouts. I am trying to think of what I want my health to be long term, as much as I have control of. I would really like to stay as strong physically and have my heart stay strong too. That i...

Step & Sweat and Mr. Bean

Image
Due to needing to be monitoring my dog Michael during his recovery after his surgery, I have stayed home with him for the past few days. I have been really getting into doing vintage workout videos from the 80's to early 00's, so I ordered an aerobic step, and it arrived this morning. I found a Richard Simmons class called Step & Sweat from 1994 and I didn't expect it to be very difficult...boy I was wrong! Halfway through the workout I was already working up quite the sweat and there were some pretty challenging combos to learn for a beginner. Luckily though, it went by quite fast due to the high energy of Richard and his team. I am continuing to look for more step classes to take (and vintage aerobic classes in general), just to give myself some variety. Later in the day I sat down and finished watching Mr. Bean's Holiday. I would like to purchase the first Mr. Bean movie too as I remember that one being very good as well. This evening, I think that I may draw for...

A busy week, and here I am again!

Image
Plan when starting this blog was to post as close to a daily basis as possible. Here I am a week later getting back to it. I had lots of things going on this past week that took up most of my time up for writing. My dog Michael was in surgery earlier this week as well and has needed to be monitored since then. Unfortunately, this meant no outside walks. I did have fun doing some Leslie Sansone workout videos, and I will need to continue this until next week when Michael is safe to be on his own again, or out walking with me! I did get a nice library haul last Saturday. I made sure to only pick 2-week items due since I will not be able to head down this weekend due to Michael's recovery. I got several DVD sets (Bob's Burgers, Golden Girls, Big Bang Theory) and another of Roz Chast's books called "Can we talk about something more pleasant?" I sat down for about 15 minutes at the library and began reading it, and it was very entertaining and quite relatable at times...

Hour of doodles and a mile walk

After getting out of work today, I didn't have much to do. I went for a mile walk to stretch my legs after sitting at a desk and then commuting home in the afternoon. Once I arrived home, I had my lunch, and then, I just felt like drawing. I drew and drew and "supervised" while my sibling organized their room. By the time I knew it, about two hours had gone by. Rarely do I draw that much at once, but I was having so much fun drawing silly things, then showing my sibling, that I just couldn't stop! I am going to do more research into cooking this evening, then wind down with a movie. That's all for now, - Carrie

Across the Spider-Verse and Doodle Brain Blast

After getting back home today, I finished watching the "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" movie. It was very good, held my attention throughout the entire film. I very rarely have that happen. I had a good amount of time today to read more of Roz Chast's book "Going into Town", and I love her laid back comedy style of storytelling.  This evening, I plan to do some drawing, do some research for more recipes to try, and maybe start watching the new-ish Lego movie, "Piece by Piece". I will be returning last week's DVD and book haul to the library soon; I am hoping that I can find a few more new movies to pick up.  Also, I don't know why it took so long for it to him me, but the reason why my cartoons are looking so flat is that I am not thinking about these characters living in a 3-D space, and that overlapping forms can help add dimension. After putting this into practice my drawings have been looking more lively. Thats all for now, - Carrie

Doodles and Summer Pasta

Image
On my way to work this morning, I was thinking about the cost of food and how to get the best quality with what I am willing to spend each week. I normally purchase frozen meals that you toss in the microwave for 10 minutes. They have pasta, meat, cheese, and vegetables all combined. But I noticed over the past few months, that their quality is going down and are putting less pasta in them and more large chunks of broccoli stems or carrots. Thats not to say I don't enjoy vegetables, but there is a point where the meal feels unbalanced. So, I decided that I am going to learn to make homemade meals, freeze them, and warm them up just like the premade ones. If my calculations are correct, making my food homemade will cost me about $20 less a week than the premade, and I can turn it into a hobby by learning new recipes and techniques. I am thinking the next meal I will be whipping up is a spaghetti recipe with broccoli. I would also like to make some homemade chocolate chip cookies and...

Trip to the CMU Botanical Garden, and studying more of Sergio Aragonés

Image
My morning was pretty relaxing, read some comics and did some more Sergio Aragonés studies. I also did a quick sketch followed by some simple line art to clean up this funny coupon drawing. About mid-afternoon I decided to go check out the CMU Botanical Garden, I knew it was most definitely not going to be in full bloom, but still thought there might be a few flowers out, so why not take a look. It is a very small cozy garden; I am very excited to return closer to summertime. There was an enclosed spot in the botanical garden with a picnic table, hovering over it is a massive tree. I will have to come back again with a meal, hopefully the spot will be empty. Me about to take a nice swig of water. There was also a really interesting portion of the botanical garden, they have a variety of large iron ores and rocks, most have labels describing what type they are. Here are a few images, definitely something I was not expecting to come across. The "Jasper Mine" was my favorite, ve...

9-mile walk, polka music, and a library visit

Today I was out for the whole afternoon and evening with my sibling. I met them after they got out of work, and we headed over to Walmart to grab a few snacks as we were planning on being out for quite a while.  Afterwards, we headed towards the library. I noticed a sign for the CMU botanical garden. I will need to find out more information about it and see if I would have interest in visiting. When we arrived at the library, I had a quick snack, then we browsed the selection. I just took out books and DVD's yesterday, so I restrained myself from taking out anymore.  We then made our way towards B's Music Shop, and I tried out a variety of pianos, guitars, ukuleles, and a banjo. It is always fun stopping in there to test the instruments. My sibling bought some vinyl's for us to listen to when we returned home. Several hours had gone by at this point, and it was now time to start heading back. We took an alternate route to head home because it was getting quite loud on the m...

Filming in an alley way, library haul, and the color yellow

Image
Just got back home from quite an eventful day. I first took a few miles walk over the library, and was surprised to see some new additions to their DVD collection. Here is the haul that I got. I am most excited to watch "Spider-Man Across the Spiderverse" and read Roz Chast's graphic novel "Going into Town".  After heading out of the library, I sat on a bench and ate a pack of cookies while listening to kids shouting in a nearby schoolyard. Afterwards, I made my way into downtown to do a little photo challenge. I was trying to find things that had a significant portion of yellow and photograph them. (It was difficult, but I held myself back from just taking pictures of all the caution street signs.) I was excited to see this window painting, it is the characters from the Netflix animated film, "Klaus". There's one sign, but I couldn't pass it up, it looked so artsy nestled in the tree. As I made my way through the city, I conveniently planned t...

Studying Sergio Aragonés, and warmer weather ahead

Image
After I got off work today it was sprinkling quite a bit. I sat inside, ate lunch and waited for the rain to settle down before taking Michael out for a walk. Maybe I will get him a rain jacket and boots, and myself an umbrella so we can go for walks more often during the spring.  Once the rain settled, I took out Michael for a half mile walk. If it would have been warmer out, I think we would have gone for a full mile. I had to wait quite a while for my bus today, so I had time to work on my reverse coloring book again. Here is the one I am currently working on. I call it "Pigs a la Spring". I also sat down and read a recently discovered favorite comic strip, called "Sherman's Lagoon". There was a very corny joke about the Morton Salt Girl, she was walking around the ocean floor and making the sea water even saltier. Afterwards, I did a bit of drawing. I have been studying some comic strip artists lately and how they simplify the human form. It is actually much...
